Oneness

One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, "Of all the commandments, which is the most important?"
"The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this: 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these."
"Well said, teacher," the man replied. "You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him. To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices."
When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." And from then on no one dared ask him any more questions.
(Mark 12:28-34)
Just been reading this. Was wondering if there was a connection between Jesus saying that God is one, and saying that the most important thing is for us to be undivided by loving God with everything we are. So I've been considering other things compete with God for my heart, my mind, my strength, my soul.

Seriously....

I rekon ur rite Christop, about the loving God with an undivided heart bit. It seems like theres lots of good things to love, but I think too that Giving the whole of your heart means taht u then actually have more room for those other things.... but if you put them 1st and then try 2 fit God in, its somehow doesn't work. somethign like that?

Mother Teresa was always reminding people [and herself i suspect] that what we do comes out of a love for God. If we serve people but not from a heart of love and from undivided time spent in prayer and contemplation, we are then no better than a social worker who is paid for their job.

A bit rambling I know... but do u get what I'm saying?

Tab: Yeah get what you're saying.

Nate: Age of Empires II can be problematic.

Craig: Bloody underpants gnomes! Smash the gnomes! God needs my underpants too.
